Google Chat - Triton Cloud Integration

This guide walks through how to set up a Google Chat space that receives alerts from your Triton sensors through Triton Cloud. Unlike the on-prem integration, this method uses Triton Cloud's built-in alerting system — no SMTP configuration required on the sensor itself. For a visual step-by-step walkthrough with screenshots, follow the Scribe guide linked below.

How does this integration work?

Google Chat spaces can receive emails, which get posted as messages. In Triton Cloud, you create a Contact using the Google Chat space's email address, then assign that contact as a recipient on your alert rules. When a sensor triggers an event, Triton Cloud sends the alert email to the Google Chat space automatically.

What do I need before starting?

  • A Google Workspace account with access to Google Chat
  • A Triton Cloud account with your sensors already added

Step 1: Create a Google Chat Space

  1. Open Google Chat and click Create a space.
  2. Name the space (e.g., "Triton Alerts") and set it to Announcements.
  3. Click Create.

Step 2: Get the Space's Email Address

  1. Open your new space, then click the space name dropdown and choose Space settings.
  2. Click Generate email and copy the email address to your clipboard.

Step 3: Create a Contact in Triton Cloud

  1. Log in to Triton Cloud and go to User Management → Contacts.
  2. Click Create Contact.
  3. Name it something identifiable (e.g., "Google Chat") and paste the Google Chat space email address into the email field.
  4. Click Create.

Step 4: Assign the Contact to Alert Rules

  1. Go to the Devices page and click on the sensor you want to receive Google Chat alerts for.
  2. Click Alerts at the top of the device page.
  3. Click the gear icon on the alert type you want to configure.
  4. Click Add Contact and select the Google Chat contact you just created.
  5. Choose Text-Based Email as the notification method — this ensures the alert formats cleanly in Google Chat.
  6. Click Save.

Can I copy this to all my sensors?

Yes. Use the "Copy This Rule to the Following Devices" dropdown to apply the same alert rule and contact to all your other sensors at once, then click Save. This makes setup much faster if you have many devices.

How do I test it?

After saving, trigger a test alert from Triton Cloud and confirm it appears in your Google Chat space. If it doesn't come through, double-check that the email address was pasted correctly and that the contact is assigned to an active alert type.
