Having trouble updating firmware on a Triton ULTRA Sensor?

If you are attempting to update your Triton ULTRA sensor and find that the upgrade file won't load, the update keeps failing, or the device hangs, it is likely because your current firmware version is too old to "read" the newer update files.

Q: Why won't my sensor accept the latest firmware file?

A: If your sensor is running a version from April 7th, 2025 (v2.3.4 in the cloud 25.04.08 through the local UI) or earlier, it has a legacy firmware architecture with a hard file size limit of 8 MB.

Our newer firmware versions are much larger than 8 MB because they include significantly more features and security patches. Because the old firmware cannot process a file of that size, it will simply reject the update or fail during the upload.

Q: How do I fix this?

A: You must perform a "Step-Update" process. This uses "bridge" files to gradually expand the device's capacity to handle larger firmware.

You can find the necessary intermediate files in this folder:

Triton Support: Older Firmware Versions

Q: What is the correct update path?

A: You must install these updates in the following order. Do not skip steps:

  1. Bridge 1: Install the May 31st, 2025 Firmware (This removes the 8 MB limit).
  2. Bridge 2: Install the October 21st, 2025 Firmware.
  3. Final: Install the Latest Version available on the cloud or support site.

Q: I tried to jump straight to the latest version and now the Web UI is a blank page. What do I do?

A: Skipping the bridge steps can put the device into a firmware boot loop, often resulting in a "CAPI Error." If your device responds to pings but the local management page is blank, reach out to Triton Support immediately. We have a specialized recovery script we can run to correct this boot loop and restore the device so you can proceed with the proper update path.

Q: My device is "Offline" in the cloud, but I can still see it locally. Will updating fix this?

A: Probably not. If the local web page works but the cloud says "Offline," the sensor is actually healthy, it just can't "talk" to our servers. This is usually caused by a firewall or network security setting blocking the device.

Updating firmware while the device is being blocked by a firewall can lead to errors. We recommend resolving the network block first using our Troubleshooting Guide before attempting an update.
