How To Adjust the Default Email Template on Triton ULTRA

When using the on-prem software, Triton ULTRA sends alert emails via SMTP. You can customize the subject line and body of these emails to match your organization's needs — for example, adding the sensor location, event type, or custom messaging. This guide shows you where to find the email template editor and how to use wildcards to build dynamic alert emails. For a visual step-by-step walkthrough with screenshots, follow the Scribe guide linked below.

Note: This guide applies to the on-prem (local) email alerts sent via SMTP. If you're using Triton Cloud, email formatting is handled automatically and also supports text and app push notifications.

How do I access the email template editor?

  1. Log in to the sensor's local web interface by entering its IP address in your browser.
  2. Click Resource in the navigation menu.
  3. Click Email Template.

You'll see editable fields for the email subject line and body, pre-filled with a default template.

How do I customize the email content?

  1. Edit the subject and body fields to match your preferred format. Use wildcards (dynamic variables) to automatically insert event-specific information into each email. Wildcards are placeholder tags that get replaced with real data when the alert is sent — for example, the sensor name, event type, timestamp, or measured value.

The available wildcards will be listed on the template page. Common examples include placeholders for the device name, the event that was triggered, the date and time, and the sensor reading that caused the alert.

Can I customize both the "set" and "reset" messages?

Yes. The template editor lets you adjust both the set message (when an event is triggered) and the reset message (when the event clears). This is useful for sending a "resolved" notification — for example, "Temperature has returned to normal in Boys Restroom – 2nd Floor."

Do I need to save after editing?

Yes — make sure to click Save after making changes to the template. The updated template will apply to all future alert emails sent from that sensor.

What if I want the same template on all my sensors?

The email template is configured per-sensor on the local interface. If you want the same template across multiple devices, you can use the Bulk Configuration feature to push settings to multiple sensors at once: How to Use the Bulk Configuration Feature on Triton ULTRA

Do I need SMTP configured for this to work?

Yes. The email template only applies to SMTP-based email alerts. If you haven't set up SMTP yet, see our SMTP Configuration Guide first. You'll also need to make sure email is enabled as an action for the desired events under Actions → Action Settings.
