How to Create a New Contact in Triton Cloud

Contacts in Triton Cloud can receive alerts via text or email but do not have access to the Triton Cloud dashboard. This is ideal for people who just need to be notified when an event occurs — like a principal, SRO, or facilities manager — without needing to log in and view sensor data. For a visual step-by-step walkthrough with screenshots, follow the Scribe guide linked below.

What's the difference between a Contact and a User?

  • Contacts can only receive alerts (text or email). They do not have access to the Triton Cloud dashboard.
  • Users have full access to the dashboard and can receive alerts via text, email, and the mobile app.

If someone needs to log in and view sensor data, create them as a User instead. See our How to Create a New User in Triton Cloud guide.

How do I create a new contact?

  1. Log in to Triton Cloud and go to User Management in the navigation menu.
  2. Click Contacts.
  3. Click Create Contact.
  4. Enter the contact's name, email address, and cell phone number.
  5. Click Create.

Tip: If you need to add multiple contacts at once, use the Upload Contact button to bulk import contacts using an Excel file.

Does creating a contact automatically enable alerts for them?

No. Adding a contact to Triton Cloud does not automatically sign them up for alerts. They must be assigned to an alert type or alert group on individual devices to start receiving notifications. See our How to Set Up Alerts in Triton Cloud guide or How to Create an Alert Group guide for instructions.

When should I use a Contact instead of a User?

Use a Contact when someone needs to be notified about events but doesn't need to see the dashboard. Common examples include school principals who just want text alerts, SROs who need immediate notification, or facilities staff who only need to know about environmental events like high temperature or air quality issues.
