How to Hard Reset a Triton ULTRA Sensor

A hard reset returns your Triton ULTRA sensor to factory defaults. This can be useful if you've been locked out of the device, need to clear a misconfigured IP, or want to start fresh. Please read this guide fully before performing a reset, there are important things to be aware of. For a visual walkthrough, follow the Scribe guide linked below.

What does a hard reset do?

A hard reset returns the sensor to its original factory state. This erases all data on the device, including the sensor name, IP configuration, and any custom password. After the reset, the sensor will revert to the default login credentials:

  • Username: admin
  • Password: 111111

The sensor will also switch back to DHCP and attempt to grab an IP address from the network automatically.

What should I know before resetting?

This will remove all local configuration. Any settings you've applied — static IP, sensor name, alert actions, SMTP configuration, etc. — will be wiped. You'll need to reconfigure the device after the reset.

DHCP must be available on your network. After the reset, the sensor defaults to DHCP. If your network does not have a DHCP server, the sensor may not obtain an IP address and could become unreachable. Use the Triton Device Manager to locate the device on your network after a reset.

This feature is only available on sensors shipped from January 2025 onwards. Older devices do not have the physical reset button.

How do I perform a hard reset?

  1. Make sure the sensor is powered on. The device must be plugged in and receiving PoE power.
  2. Remove the backplate. Locate and unscrew the security screw securing the backplate, then carefully remove it to access the back of the device.
  3. Locate the reset button hole. It's on the back of the device near the MAC address sticker.
  4. Insert a paperclip (or similar thin tool) into the reset hole.
  5. Press and hold the reset button inside the hole. Keep holding until the LED lights on the front of the device flash rainbow colors.
  6. Release the button. The device will reset and reboot automatically.

What do I do after the reset?

Once the device reboots, it will be on DHCP with default credentials. You'll need to:

  • Use the Triton Device Manager or check your network/firewall interface to find the sensor's new IP address.
  • Log in with the default credentials (admin / 111111) and reconfigure the device — including setting a static IP, renaming the sensor, and re-applying any alert or integration settings.
  • If the sensor is registered in Triton Cloud, it will reconnect automatically once it has network and internet access. No changes are needed on the cloud side.
