How To Re-Name A Triton ULTRA Sensor

This guide covers how to rename a Triton ULTRA sensor through the local (on-prem) software. The name you set here is used in the sensor's local interface and affects how the sensor is identified in email alerts, the Device Manager, and the RTSP occupancy stream. This does not change the sensor's name in Triton Cloud — cloud naming is managed separately through the Triton Cloud dashboard. For a visual step-by-step walkthrough with screenshots, follow the Scribe guide linked below.

How do I rename the sensor?

  1. Log in to the sensor's local web interface by entering its IP address in your browser. Default credentials are:
    • Username: admin
    • Password: Triton0520! (or 111111)
  2. Click Device Settings in the navigation menu.
  3. Click Device Info.
  4. Click the Location field.
  5. Type a descriptive name and any other relevant information — for example, "Boys Restroom – 2nd Floor," "Gym Hallway – Building A," or "Room 204."
  6. Click Save.

Where does this name appear?

The name you set through the local software will show up in:

  • SMTP email alerts — so recipients know exactly which sensor triggered the event.
  • Triton Device Manager — for easy identification when managing multiple sensors on the network.
  • RTSP occupancy stream — the location name overlays directly on the live occupancy video feed. If you're integrating the RTSP stream into a VMS, this is the name that will display on the feed.

Note: This name is local only and does not sync to Triton Cloud. If you're using Triton Cloud, the cloud device name is managed separately under Device Management in the cloud dashboard. We recommend keeping both names consistent so alerts from either system are easy to identify.

What should I name my sensors?

Use a naming convention that makes it immediately clear where the sensor is located. Good examples include the room name and floor ("Boys Restroom – 1st Floor"), a room number ("Room 112"), or a building and area ("East Wing – Hallway B"). Consistent naming helps staff respond quickly when alerts come in.
