Slack - Triton Cloud Integration

This guide walks through how to set up a Slack channel that receives alerts from your Triton sensors through Triton Cloud. Unlike the on-prem Slack integration, this method uses Triton Cloud's built-in alerting system — no SMTP configuration required on the sensor itself. For a visual step-by-step walkthrough with screenshots, follow the Scribe guide linked below.

How does this integration work?

Slack channels can receive emails, which get posted as messages. In Triton Cloud, you create a User using the Slack channel's email address, then assign that user as a recipient on your alert rules. When a sensor triggers an event, Triton Cloud sends the alert email to the Slack channel automatically.

What do I need before starting?

  • A Slack workspace where you can create channels
  • A Slack plan that supports the "Email to Channel" feature (Slack Pro, Business+, or Enterprise Grid)
  • A Triton Cloud account with your sensors already added

Step 1: Create a Slack Channel

  1. Open Slack and click Channels in the sidebar.
  2. Click Create Channel and choose Blank Channel, then click Next.
  3. Give it a name (e.g., "triton-alerts"), set the visibility to Public or Private based on your preference, and click Create.

Step 2: Get the Channel's Email Address

  1. Open the new channel and click the three dots (⋮) in the top-right corner.
  2. Click Edit Settings, then go to Integrations.
  3. Click Send emails to this channel — Slack will generate a unique email address for the channel.
  4. Copy that email address.

Step 3: Create a User in Triton Cloud with the Slack Email

  1. Log in to Triton Cloud and go to User Management → Users.
  2. Click Create User.
  3. Enter the following:
    • Name: Slack (or something identifiable like "Slack Alerts")
    • Email: Paste the Slack channel email address
    • Role: View Only
  4. Click Create.

Step 4: Assign the Slack User to Alert Rules

  1. Go to the Devices page and click on the sensor you want to receive Slack alerts for.
  2. Click on the alert widget for the event type you want to configure (e.g., Vape, Aggression, etc.).
  3. Click the gear icon to open the notification settings.
  4. Click Add Contact and select the Slack user you just created.
  5. Choose Text-Based Email as the notification method — this ensures the alert formats cleanly in Slack.
  6. Use the "Copy This Rule to the Following Devices" dropdown to apply the same rule to your other sensors.
  7. Click Save.

Do I need to repeat this for every alert type?

Yes — each alert type (Vape, THC, Gunshot, Aggression, etc.) has its own notification settings. Repeat Steps 12–18 for each event type you want sent to Slack. You can copy each rule to all devices at once, so you only have to configure each alert type one time.

Why is Slack set up as a User instead of a Contact?

For the Slack integration through Triton Cloud, the Slack channel email is added as a User (with View Only permissions) rather than a Contact. This ensures the alert emails are delivered correctly through Triton Cloud's notification system.
